Evolution of Drone Regulations
The regulation governing drone use is constantly evolving, in tandem with technological advancements. It varies depending on the drone’s weight and flying altitude. Light drones, typically weighing around 25 kg, operate at altitudes below 150 meters. The rules for light drones are generally not overly restrictive, given their limited risks, but authorization criteria differ from one country to another. In contrast, heavier drones are subject to stricter scrutiny in most countries.
Drone Regulations in Morocco
In Morocco, introducing drones requires authorization from the Ministry of Foreign Trade. The importation of drones is conditioned by obtaining a prior import license, in accordance with law no. 13/89 on foreign trade. This process involves coordination between the Ministry of Foreign Trade and other departments, notably the Ministry of the Interior, to ensure security and privacy protection related to drone use. Each drone use must also be subject to specific authorization from the local authority.
Regulations in Europe
In Europe, a common drone regulation has been in place since 2021, but each country also maintains its specific regulation. This means that in some cases, drone users must take into account both European and national regulations, as is the case in Germany.
Case of Regulations in Germany
Germany has integrated drone systems into its air traffic regulation. In the country, the use of drones for flights out of the line of sight with devices over 25 kg is prohibited. Authorized flights must not exceed an altitude of 100 meters above the ground, except in specifically authorized areas. Obtaining flight authorization from aeronautical authorities is necessary, and remote pilots must prove their competence and training in the field of drones. The scope of the authorization is limited to the area of responsibility of the issuing authority.
Finally, drones may soon be integrated into 5G networks, which could lead to adjustments in current regulations.
Our Commitment to Regulation
At Le Droniste, we are committed to complying with all current regulations. We are insured and registered with the Moroccan authorities, ensuring the acquisition of all necessary authorizations for our flights, whether in urban areas or less populated zones. Moreover, we ensure that each flight is declared and registered in full compliance with regulations.
For the importation of drones into Morocco, we strictly adhere to Decree No. 386-15 of February 6, 2015, and we operate in close coordination with the relevant authorities to ensure safety and the protection of property rights and privacy.
We take pride in our commitment to regulatory compliance and safety in all our drone services in Morocco. For foreign filmmakers, we understand that obtaining authorizations can be complex, which is why the relevant authorities often recommend renting drones on-site as a safety measure. We are here to advise and support you in these procedures so that your aerial project proceeds legally.
